Mikumi National Park is Tanzania's fourth-largest national park, located between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range. It's easily accessible from Dar es Salaam and offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The park is home to elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and over 400 bird species.

This 3-day, 2-night safari from Zanzibar takes you by boat to Dar es Salaam, then by road to Mikumi. You'll enjoy game drives, a Masai culture tour, and comfortable accommodation at Camp Bastian. This safari is perfect for those who want to experience African wildlife without traveling too far from Zanzibar.

You'll stay at Camp Bastian, a comfortable lodge located near Mikumi National Park. The camp offers well-appointed rooms, a restaurant serving local and international cuisine, and a relaxing atmosphere after your game drives.

Wildlife in Mikumi

Mikumi National Park is known for its large elephant herds, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, hippos, crocodiles, and over 400 bird species including lilac-breasted rollers, yellow-throated longclaws, and bateleur eagles. Lucky visitors may also spot leopards and wild dogs.

Day 1: Zanzibar – Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park

Pick up from your hotel in Zanzibar at 5:00 AM. Transfer to the port to catch the boat to Dar es Salaam departing at 7:30 AM, arriving at 8:30 AM. Meet your driver and drive to Mikumi National Park (approximately 6 hours drive). Upon arrival, check in at Camp Bastian. In the evening, enjoy a Masai culture tour where you'll learn about the traditions and way of life of the Maasai people. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

After breakfast, depart for a full day game drive in Mikumi National Park. The park is known for its open savannah, which makes wildlife viewing easy. You'll have the chance to see elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and many bird species. At 12:30 PM, stop for a hot lunch at a designated picnic site within the park. Continue with the game drive in the afternoon, exploring different areas of the park. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Mikumi – Dar es Salaam – Zanzibar

Early morning breakfast at the lodge, then check out and depart for Dar es Salaam. Drive back to Dar es Salaam (approximately 6 hours). Arrive in time to catch the last boat back to Zanzibar at 5:00 PM. The boat arrives in Zanzibar at 6:30 PM. Our driver will meet you at the port and transfer you back to your hotel, concluding your Mikumi safari adventure.
